TBF Nvidia has managed to convince you it's a bargain, because they've consistently raised prices. So when you do a relative comparison in the same "class" it's going to look like a bargain in your mind. It's a good deal, because something else was terribly priced. Be careful of mental accounting. .
Oh, I'm fully aware. But ARC is stupid (I have a a380 at work, causes hard freezes every so often, and I'm about to chuck it out in favor of the GTX1030 it replaced), and AMD RX can match the raster performance of 4090 mostly but only about 60% in terms of RT and probably lower once efficacy of DLSS etc kicks in.

I'm very much hopeful for AMD and I'm running a 5900X, but I am less interested in high frame rates than in just really absorbing the scenery. And with the 4080 price drop there was no point going for the 7900xtx.

so, no much options. I miss the early 2000s when there were multiple competing architectures. matrox, diamond, ati, etc. these days its nvidia for the best balance and greatest power, amd for great bang for the buck, and arc is for the people who are seriously limited budgets and are willing to hit the hard reset every so often.

I agree. There's no real good competitor to Nvidia these days. They're so far ahead of everyone else. DLSS alone is worth gold, let alone the stability.

I'm hopeful ARC will eventually be competitive in the mid-range to upper mid-range area. For now, I'd avoid them myself. AMD GPUs is just not as good for VR these days.

So I'm totally with you, and why I ended up with a 3070.

So I bought this but forgot to add the discount codes that could give me a little more off and then I just decided I'd wait on the 50 series since it's coming soon anyway. Well even though I cancelled within 30 minutes it looks like they charged me and shipped anyway. Something about cancellation request failed. So... now trying a re-route request... Maybe I will just end up with a 4090 anyway....
