They are going to expire soon. I bought it in March 2024 and the expiration date was May 2024. I also got a bad allergic reaction to it so I suspects that they are storing them improperly too as skincare need to be stored a certain temperature and environment.
Expiration 5/20/2024
You are correct - gradual reduction over time in efficacy but time horizon is a year or two post expiration date. If you use it in the next 6-12 months you're fine. (worked at a major CPG and launched a few SPF products during my time)

There's also this Supergoop sunscreen on sale too. Seems somewhat waterproof with a higher SPF and significantly larger volume for the same price. My wife pointed out that I may like it more as the other one is more a primer sunscreen under make-up whereas this one is a combo lotion and sunscreen and designed to be applied alone. Same May expiration, fine for this summer though.

it matters in a sense that sun protection will be less effective as it ages. its not like food where it'll go "bad" and make you sick, rather gradual loss of effect. that is how i understand it at least.
either way, not a fan of mineral sunscreen anyways. always wondered how goop got away with charging so much in the first place when theres so many other options that are just as good or better for less (asian skincare brands)
It starts to become less effective after the expiration date and not at the exact date printed on the packaging. Those dates are very conservative.

This Ca mom does not see the evidence that it is an endocrine disrupter. Not everyone here is the same. ; )

The folks on the Trader Joes subreddit rave about the Supergoop dupe they have. It's called Daily Facial Sunscreen [reddit.com]. I've been using it and it's great! It goes on very light and has a matte finish.

Keep that a secret. Shhh lol. 🤫

Yep. Also I would assume that the mineral sunscreens may have deterioration of the carrier, but the minerals should not expire like the chemical sunscreens.

Highly recommend looking into Asian sunscreens. 1999 was the last time a sunscreen active ingredient was approved in the US. Sunscreen technology in other countries has WAY surpassed what you'll find here even for premium products. You can find very thin watery sunscreens that work just as well but don't feel like you're rubbing mayonnaise on your face or giving you the Zucc surfing white makeup.

Search around online for both why US sunscreens suck as well as product recommendations.
One I used last year I liked was Biore UV aqua rich, but you can find other products people like.
