They are going to expire soon. I bought it in March 2024 and the expiration date was May 2024. I also got a bad allergic reaction to it so I suspects that they are storing them improperly too as skincare need to be stored a certain temperature and environment.
Expiration 5/20/2024
You are correct - gradual reduction over time in efficacy but time horizon is a year or two post expiration date. If you use it in the next 6-12 months you're fine. (worked at a major CPG and launched a few SPF products during my time)

it matters in a sense that sun protection will be less effective as it ages. its not like food where it'll go "bad" and make you sick, rather gradual loss of effect. that is how i understand it at least.
either way, not a fan of mineral sunscreen anyways. always wondered how goop got away with charging so much in the first place when theres so many other options that are just as good or better for less (asian skincare brands)

What brands would you suggest as alternatives?

The folks on the Trader Joes subreddit rave about the Supergoop dupe they have. It's called Daily Facial Sunscreen [reddit.com]. I've been using it and it's great! It goes on very light and has a matte finish.

I love the Supergoop mineral sunscreen it is typically expensive but last a long time. Being a person of color I find it blends in well to my skin without giving that infamous white cast that a lot of sunscreens can give. Additionally, it doesn't dry my skin out like some daily sunscreens tend to do to me (eh hem cerave).

I realize it's about to expire but I'll risk it for $7.99 lol.

I have also heard good things about the Trader Joe's dupe but have never been able to find it in stock to try.

im partial to korean skincare brands and theres quite a few. i would recommend checking out r/asianbeauty for recs since there's many.

most of the chemical sunscreens (not a fan of mineral for application preferences) ive tried are good such as birch sunscreen, benton air fit, skin1004, toriden etc

they are all light and easy to apply

Second the Trader Joe's facial sunscreen. That stuff is great.
