Look around at your local Lowes if you need a nice chainsaw... Some of the ones around me in MA recently had some real nice Husqvarna saws on clearance for crazy low prices. I bought a 545 Mark ii for $383 before tax. That's normally a $630 saw.

They also had the 455 Rancher for $329. Most Lowes don't have this on clearance, but it's worth checking locally.

I own 2 gas chainsaws and never use them as the electrics are so much better. Unless you're way out in the woods.

I haven't found an electric saw yet for under $500 that can run the bar lengths I sometimes require. The 455, 465 and 545 can handle up to 32" for short periods. I've also had issues with the electric saws when it's hot out. I live in the south so 100+ degree days are pretty common.

this is another example of lowes {and so many other retailers} raising something $100 "because of Covid" and now finally bringing it back down because of the public now finally refusing to pay the inflated price

Very few people need a 32" bar. I bet the Greenworks 80v would work just fine with a 32" bar. I have the Husqvarna 450 Rancher, and it's inferior in every way to the greenworks 80v. Tomorrow, I'm taking down another maple today or tomorrow, with a 24"+ trunk, and I know which saw I'm going to use. Gotta love instant torque.

Sounds like you found the perfect saw for yourself. I'm glad that works for everything you need.

Yeah but what fun is a chainsaw without annoying the neighbors.

I consider a chainsaw to be something that you often need to use in emergency situations such as during hurricanes or blizzards when trees are down as is the electrical grid and often remain that way for many days at a time. This is where it's nice to know that a few 5 gallon gas jugs is all you'll need to cut your way out of anything for a few weeks. I wouldn't want to be stuck with no way to recharge an electric saw since I don't have a generator.

You have a chainsaw and lots of gas but no generator?

Yep. I have a ton of vehicles, dirtbikes and motorcycles... So there is always plenty of fresh gasoline on premises. I could use one of the vehicles as a charger if I had a DC-AC inverter, but that's pretty inefficient.

I have a ranch, around 900 acres with many, many trees. Cottonwood, black walnut, locust, cedar, etc. Storm cleanup and cutting trees out of fences/pastures are common tasks. I've had a 455 Rancher since about '06. Never had an issue of any kind. So, if they haven't changed them much, this is a good saw.

I had several large trees around the house that needed down, so I got a Greenworks 80v, both saw and pole saw. I needed to be on the ladder to get some large branches before dropping some, I thought it would be handier without having to pull start while up there, and it was. Nice saws, plenty of power. But, don't last long enough to use "out and about" like I usually am. Enough for small jobs, a tree or two, with a couple batteries, depending. Plus quite heavy for extended use, which is my complaint about the Rancher too (I have bad hands).

I've got a little Makita ea3601. (I think that's the number...). Great saw, very light, nice power for the size, good for the little cleanup stuff, but cuts the full bar with no issues.

I'm looking at getting another saw. Likely pro for the weight, probably a Stihl ms261 or the next size up. Might trade the Rancher, simply because it has to be getting worn out as much use as it's had, and I'd like something with similar power and a little lighter, and would rather do that before I need to overhaul it.

Stihl's mega saws are pretty impressive.

My Maple is down, though not fully chopped up. I needed an assist from my 20V dewalt polesaw to get it started up high enough not to destroy the neighbor's water tank. I wish I got the 10" greenworks instead of the 8" dewalt.

900 acres is a lot. 6 is plenty for me.

I'll mention that I've had a 455 Rancher for about a decade now and use it regularly enough. Mine would always leak out it's whole tank of bar oil after use. Searched around and it seemed to be a fairly common issue, so I replaced the oil pickup hose and sealed it when putting it in and it's been great since. Pretty easy to fix yourself for cheap.
Good starts, typically idles well. Like any gas saw, when maintained and tuned, it cuts well. I'd always recommend that if you're going to be felling on the regular and putting some decent use into your saw, you buy whichever brand has the closest service center near you. Especially if you're not into fixing and tuning 2 stroke engines.
