How well does this work behind walls with "stuff" in them? Does this really only work if you're pulling through conduit or empty drywall with clear openings between studs?

Not carried at any locations near me. I've always wanted to try this - especially when trying to run wire in an insulated wall with just a fish rod.

I recently put in 4 recessed lights with the original magnepul. The wire kept getting caught in the attic insulation while pulling. So I ended up tying a string to it and pulled that. Worked great, much better than trying it from the attic. I also pulled a wire down a wall to a switch plate with it.

Sold out in the DC area. Man I want this thing bad to help put up a bunch of POE Ubiquiti Unify security cameras around the house!

I think it's best to use it with a (strong) string, and then use the string as a pull string for the wires. Otherwise the device can get caught inside the wall and get untied from the wires, and will be very difficult or impossible to get it out.

None available locally in my area, and could only be shipped to pick up in-store. Using this method, prices varied among local stores so chose the store with the cheapest price for shipping with in-store pickup.

Not a buyer since I have those fiber glass rods, but what's the advantage and use case?

Just from looking at it, it only looks to be good for short, straight runs.

This is really good for sliding between insulation and the wall. Fishsticks tend to get caught on the insulation. If the walls are empty, both work or just a weight on a string works also.

I like it but they seem to pick up every single metal shaving behind the wall. It sucks to have to clean it off.
You can always wrap a small plastic bag around it and discard along with the shavings once done.

I have used it and it works great. Super strong magnet. However, do remember that that the leader is quite large and you need a large opening. I have tried a small screw tied to a wire and used this hand held magnet with success (in case you do not want to drill a large hole in the wire).

That's an interesting idea. I'll try it out
