I have this in my truck. Only complaint is that the screen is too bright at night even at the lowest settings.

Can't beat it for $55.

I have this...and I will say this...the metra rav4 mounting kit doesn't fit well with the atoto 7we... Android auto and car play on this works good but took me hours trying to find the right settings..still haven't gotten my steering wheel functions to work with it...and phone calling function is HORRIBLE on all f7 models and atoto will not fix it... This stereo is fine but I can't recommend it to anyone because of the phone call issues. https://youtu.be/Cr2hpKGdqHk
If it's anything like the cpaa-70m unit of theirs, programming isn't as intuitive as it could be for SWCs. You have to first errase the factory preset and then press and hold the button you pressed in the menu which you wanted to program it to. Then once you set all the controls, you have to hit save. Some of my SWCs didn't register though (my vol+/-, skip for/back and I think the answer call one worked too). Had like 3 buttons not do anything. Most head units kind of give you instructions on what to do. Also, no interface is needed for SWCs on this unit like you need on some (well not on the unit I have but it looks very similar).

On my Atoto A6 Android unit, I can pull one finger down on the screen which brings down a menu with options. You can pull down up to three times and get more options. One of them is a brightness bar. You can drag it all the way to the left and it gets pretty dim. There's also an eye comfort option which makes the whole thing a little less bright white. Combined with minimum brightness and the eye comfort option, the screen is dim enough to stay on at night. Not sure if that works on your set, but worth a try.

Is the orange Illumination wire connected correctly? If so, does the display actually change when you turn on your headlights? It's possible you have negative trigger Illumination and it's looking for positive trigger, or, it's just not working at all.

Here's the manual for everyone:

Probably not user error; I've had several head units which are just too bright for dark road travel and you simply have to turn the screen off. One of the worst ones I've had was one of those over sized 10" head units. That thing was blinding at night (even with the dimmer connected). You wouldn't even need to turn on the interior light to find something in the dark. I'm not exaggerating here.

Does anybody know the ram size and CPU for this?
Also, the storage size?
Unlike your more traditional head units, when dealing with an android system, it is pretty important to know these things.

Think of this as a phone or a tablet mounted in your car.
If you have less that 4GB of ram, you are likely going to have latency and you might run into scenarios where things will just crash or not run at all.

I looked on the page and do not see these specs listed anywhere. And it is usually out front for Android Head Units.

My Rav that this is in is a 2012 a unicorn because Toyota used things on it from that generation but also stuff from the next generation before it was released. People like crutch field have said it needs a interface to work others said just splicing the wires will get it to work. I tried just using the harness for the interface as just a cheaper option which may be an issue. The f7 says to press and hold the control button then press the stwc on the car and it should program. There's no save button or erase button that I know of

Got this same unit last December for the same deal. Just letting you know of what you're getting into:

My take on this after installing it:

You got a defective unit. It happens. It's your fault for not exchanging or returning it.

This isn't Android based so that doesn't matter.

It's actually a setting in the menu. Usually you have to ground the E-brake wire.

DOOH EEK!

I saw the Android Auto and although I do not know why, my mind went straight to an Android based system.

Tbh it kinda sucks. I bought this unit in December but finally got around to installing it last week. I noticed the difference in the sound quality immediately. But, as someone else mentioned, a lot of people are getting this for features their prior head unit didn't have. I was missing Bluetooth, Android auto, USB, and aux, so being able to add it for $50 was very appealing. And after messing with the EQ the sound became much more acceptable. The rest of the unit works as advertised and is a great value for the price. However, if you have a long commute and you primarily listen to music from quality sources, I would potentially reconsider.

If you said EQ can get it acceptable, this sounds like a better option than the SoundStorm I bought.

Well I was talking about about the HU I got last year from walmart (looks similar and included the same speakers). Anyway that one doesn't let you program didly aquat without resetting it first. Not very intuitive.

Something like this should solve your problem: https://a.co/d/8FvtajT

If you don't need quite so much dimming, there's other variants.

Just make sure they aren't diffusers or polarizers.
That wouldn't work for most of these cheaper head units because then they wouldn't be bright enough in the day. There is a bit of you get what you pay for with these sorts of electronics. This isn't a Sony or Pioneer.

Just got this and noticed it doesn't come with a microphone? Is there one built into the HU so the external microphone plug is optional, or do I need to buy a mic now too?

Also looking for recommendations on wiring harnesses for this thing.

Be advised that Walmart canceled my order; it was taking "too long". And yet, the same thing was still available on their website for $140 (different vendor maybe?). I called CS and gave them an earful…but all I got was $25 off 50 promo code.

I guess it's clearance so always YMMV
