edit: wow, the one at home depot is now $8. that's quite a price increase.

This isn't a bad deal for a pretty standard alarm from a reputable brand but you can usually buy a 4-pack of Kidde or First Alert alarms any day at the big box for ~$60-70.
The life span of a smoke alarm is technically 10 years *from the date of manufacture* and Amazon is sometimes sketchy about selling old/counterfeit electronics. Especially if you go for the sealed battery models, make sure you're not getting an old one that won't actually last you 10 years.
Most alarm manufacturers like First Alert recommend against using rechargeable batteries to power your alarm. Rechargeable batteries lose charge faster and have a shorter runtime than standard batteries. The NFPA requires a standard amount of backup time that rechargeable batteries don't offer.
