So you have to decide whether saving $200 (MSRP of 4080 Super is $1000 and there are a couple models usually available at that price) is worth just the marginal raw fps advantage. That's the way I looked at it when I made the decision a couple of months ago. I ended up going with the 4080 Super.

Equal to or better than 4080S in Raster. Gets smoked in Ray Tracing.
At this price point it's like a $900 super imo. $850 makes a 7900 xtx compelling. $830 or less… consider it sold out. Price to performance at $800 becomes very top notch.
You're right. I've bought 2 used on eBay for $700. Only lucky because I'm like a shark. The original buyers flaked out and reached out to me to scoop it for my offered price.
This was used, so $800 is very respectful, it could be 2 years before we see this power available around $500-600
