For those with experience with these deals. this might be worth it for you guys. Walmart has several phones as low as $1 per month for 36 months. It doesn't look like bill credits either. Buy, activate, pay off, then cancel within 3 days. Phones should automatically unlock after 60 days. Some Iphone 12 plus, pros and max for $2.75 per month but out of stock. I have done this before so I will try it again.
Just wanted to verify my timeline for doing this is right.
- Buy Galaxy a14 on Monday.
- Two day shipping, arrives Wednesday. (Business Day #2)
- Pay off phone Wednesday and make a call/text. (Can I pay off phone earlier - before it arrives?)
- Cancel service Thursday (Business Day #3 - last day to avoid activation fee)
- Leave in drawer without service for 60 days, tweak apps, SD card, settings....
- Unlocked automatically
- Use on any USA network (probably US Mobile).
FYI, Moto Edge they are selling is the old 2021 version. Be aware.
Yes. So definitely not worth for these phones.

04/22/24: Ordered Samsung Galaxy A42 5G.
04/24/24: Activated account online and added a credit card for autopay.
04/26/24: Device delivered; Activated service, and made test calls and sent texts.
04/26/24: Paid off device ($36) - Called 800-922-0204 and said 'Pay off device'.
04/27/24: Disconnected service - Called 800-922-0204 and said 'Disconnect service'. Got transferred to an agent who asked why I wanted to cancel the line. I gave some flimsy excuse. Agent proceeded to disconnect the line in less than 5 minutes.
* The line has stopped working; however, I still have access to my account online! I will wait to see what my final bill looks like.
Did they charge you an activation fee?
Can I do this on an existing Verizon line with no activation fee?

How did you activate the account online prior to receiving the phone? I just ordered a 3rd gen Iphone SE last night and got no information about what my phone number is, anything.
Just need a massive recession to get the Federal Reserve to turn the money printers back on and bring rates back down to 0% (or even negative).
simply change the President's. I miss when oil was $30-$40 a barrel and we were exporting it (vs importing oil), mortgage rates were 3-4%, basically before the woke.
How did you activate the account online prior to receiving the phone?
On hindsight I suspect that the phone was activated when it shipped. My first bill shows that service plan started on the date of purchase. I 'activated' by creating an online account with the email address used to purchase and the new phone number

The phone number is on the loan agreement. You should have downloaded it from Walmart's website once you completed the purchase.

Isn't it cheaper to buy the Straightalk 3rd Gen SE from Walmart for $150? This is a lot of hoops to jump through to make sure your phone gets unlocked and you don't over pay when they issue the bill.

Yeah I made the purchase with my cell phone so I didn't think about it at the time, which is completely my fault. But now order history doesn't show anything to download.
Phone was activated during setup. I made a call just in case. Added credit card using My Verizon app. Called 800-922-0204 and said "pay off device" came up with $36 payoff (Sam. A42) and processed directly without an agent. Hung up and called back and said "disconnect my service" got transferred to agent (Angel) and she was able to disconnect service immediately (took about 10 min, asked several questions etc.) She said it would take 1 week to re-calculate the bill. Immediately after hanging up I tried making a call and it said I didn't have any service. If I log into my Verizon acct it says my service is disconnected, but still shows $122 due. I expect that'll change within the week.
After a few days my bill was adjusted to $58.14, basically they took of the prorated service.
I called today and they said my phone was activated on 4-18 (when it was shipped) and the service was cancelled on 4-22 (when I received it and called to pay off and cancel). So it was active for 4 days and therefore the activation charge was valid. However she agreed to waive the activation fee, since I never actually used the service. My bill should be adjusted in 24-48 hours. Unfortunately the surcharges are not pro-ratable :-(
So my final cost should be:
$4.32 from Walmart when ordered ($2.16 fee and $2.16 tax)
$36 Verizon device payoff
$23.14 final bill ( 4 days service and fees - $7.73 surcharges and $3.47 fees)
$62.46 total

You were lucky that the agent properly disconnected your line when you called.
The agent I talked to when I received the device botched my disconnection request. Even though the line stopped working after I told her to immediately disconnect the line, she actually scheduled the disconnection date for the end of the billing period! That explains why my online account access was still active although the line has stopped not working.
I became concerned when I did not receive the revised/final bill after 5 business days as promised. I spoke to another agent yesterday who told me that the first agent actually scheduled the disconnection date for the end of the billing period. Now I still have to wait for a new revised bill which means that I will end up with a much higher cost for this deal.
This morning I confirmed that my online account access is closed ("This user ID has no active mobile number.") so I know that the second agent has properly disconnected the service.

Got an email from Verizon with my latest bill, which is a credit of $5.83.

I got a bill of $60 despite disconnecting the Services on the next day I got the phone. I haven't got the statement yet but I called Verizon they are saying $124 was my initial bill and they gave credit for prorated service and the outstanding amount is still $60. I honestly don't understand what's going on.

Same initial bill amount here. They added a month of service a full month prior to ordering the phone and opening the verizon account in my case. You'll have to fight them on getting that waived/credited/refunded.

Simplified version: The phone wouldn't activate on Verizon so I used my US Mobile (Verizon network) sim card to set up the phone initially. Took my sim back out and into my other phone, plugged in the iPhone to charge and let it update overnight and the next morning it was magically locked to T-Mobile's network. Lots of time sending complaints to literally everyone I could think of. Phone is still locked though I was refunded service charges from Verizon.
