If Jackson added aliens to Middle Earth, Tolkien would have rose from the dead lol
Maybe if you're still using a 1080p television or a cheap 4k set it wouldn't be worth it, but there is a wild difference in quality between UHD streaming and 4k discs if you own a quality home theater setup. I'd recommend the disc versions if you can get them, and they also come with digital copies. The digital copies also tend to run $15 on FanFlix and the occasional HBO sale, so if you don't mind waiting there will always be another chance to pick them up for less.
My question for the Alien bundle is whether they have a mix of 4k and HDX? I think only the first two are in 4k, but not sure if those versions are included in the bundle.

Perhaps I'm the only one here who won't spend a ton on digital items that can be taken away from you without recourse. We've already experienced how AMAZON can remove your legit (even though free through mistake) purchase across all platforms if it's linked. User agreement can remove product from site and make it unattainable in the future "without backing it up." WTF does that mean? And if your back up say "crashes" and you can't get it again, you're out of money. There are more than one scenario that makes me feel purchasing physical copies with digital attached is the only way to go.
People keep talking about sound, but the picture is also superior on a 4k disc. Compression is unavoidable for streaming so even if you have rock solid gigabit service the picture quality for any streamed media is going to be worse than what you'd see on a disc at the same resolution.
I stream movies all the time, it's way more convenient and often cheaper than buying discs. But let's not kid ourselves that it's "just as good." If you want the absolute best picture and sound, for now disc is still the way to go.
Even if the audio on the Apple LOTR stream is mildly inferior (which, I suspect, is a questionable assertion for all but the most sensitive listeners with top of the line audio equipment), this collection is under $20. The cheapest I can find the UHD disc collection is over $70.
I doubt the extra $50+ for the supposedly superior audio on the disc version is going to be worth the 250% price premium. To each their own.
One thing to consider also though is when you own the disc, you own them until they are destroyed. When owned digitally, there is no guarantee that the studio may not get in a dispute with Apple one day and pull their IP off their platforms. So you never truly "own" them digitally, per se.

Great. Thanks.
And yet you watched all three
