Already played the changes on the PTR. They drastically changed the end game and itemization, which were the biggest complaints. Still has issues but $20 is totally worth it.
I didn't buy this at the release because I had played the beta and was very disappointed. It felt to me as if it was literally the mobile game Diablo Immortal scaled up to be a console/PC version. It had all the same mechanics. The dungeons with chests and pearls, the open world with the horse and running into random people that were not your friends etc. They turned Diablo Immortal and 4 into an open world RPG almost as if they tried to go MMO with the Diablo franchise. It's not full MMORPG with the holy trinity of Tank/DPS/Heal as you can still do just about everything solo and play whatever class you want, but the open world and often running into other players while exploring and doing open world events exists. As well as PvP zones etc.
There is of course seasonal challenges like in Diablo 3, and they've added a Battle Pass like in Immortal and just about every other game out there now. The one thing to note tho is that the Battle Pass does not offer you anything other than cosmetics and platinum. It's not like Call of Duty where you can get a gun that's only available in the battle pass, or special blue prints etc. All you really get is is a special cosmetic for your armor or your horse etc. So you don't feel you have to buy the battle pass unless you want to look fancy. There are a still many freebies in the battle pass that you will be able to acquire while leveling up, and with only 90 levels it's not overly hard. I've got less than 50 hours in since buying the game, and I'm already over 60 levels into the battle pass.
Now for the nitty gritty...if you played D3 you remember paragon...well they really reworked paragon and it's a freakin nightmare! No longer is Paragon straight forward and you get a point and you pick between a few categories and decide where you want to spend your points and have a nice day. No, now you have paths and glyphs and tile sets and all sorts of other things to factor in. Of course there's a half dozen sites out there that will tell you the ideal build for how to spend your points and which glyph to level etc.
Rifts/Greater Rifts from D3 are gone and now you have Nightmare Dungeons. You buy sigils to trigger nightmare dungeons and these dungeons are special versions of dungeons with various modifiers attached to the dungeon and then of course at the end a special boss with extra loot and a way to level up your glyphs (same as in rifts).
IMO, D4 is not as good as D3. But visually the cinematics are of course Blizzard quality gorgeous and if you love Blizzard cinematics you won't be disappointed. I however liked the story from 3 better than 4, and I miss Deckard Cain and staying a while to listen...

They were tons of other games for cheap too. Best i think i saw was Ring Fit Adventure for 30 and Payday3 for 20.
