Looks flimsy and a lot of other brands that have exact same product with different names on it have bad reviews saying it is.

I agree this thing looks like trash, but that particular review seems silly because the product description specifically says not to use it with sweet potatoes and that's what broke hers:

I thought this review did a pretty good job of summing it up. A bit disappointing, but sounds like it can work ok for some use cases.

So we eat a lot of fries in our household. I will say, the suction does not exist, and you have to choose your potatoes wisely for it to work. Yellow potatoes are the only type that work in this thing and I will say, it saves a lot of time. You definitely have to put a little elbow grease into it if the potato is too big and if it still gets stuck, I just cut it in half while it's in there then give it a couple pushes and all good. But now I just cut big potatoes in half to save the trouble. Don't even tempt with russets or sweet potatoes, they aren't going through no matter what. I actually didn't realize how expensive this thing was as my husband purchased it - it is not nearly worth that but in the same breath it's worth it for those yellow potatoes. This was long winded but I felt it needed a detailed review. Haha =P

The not for sweet potatoes in the product name might be a warning that you are correct.
There was a local home goods and gadgets type of store that sold a quality version of this a few years back, but I can no longer find the listing for it.
If you are looking to reliably cut French fries for years to come you might consider something like this: https://www.webstaurantstore.com/...jIQAvD_BwE

i have one of these it works pretty great but takes some getting the hang of. you can actually do sweet potatoes to just microwave them for 1-2 minutes first so they have a slight 'give' to them (but NOT cooked!)

So I came here to ask why it couldn't cut sweet potatoes and you already answered my question, thank you!
