Yea, but it's good to be 2-3 generations behind on routers, because the new routers are so buggy.

When this router came out, it was bug heaven, until the community ironed things out with merlin. And you always want to buy the most popular asus model, because it has by far the most merlin users fixing bugs. In comparison, the biggest-fastest-routers, king spiders, don't get nearly as much support as the leaner pound for pound champs like the AC86u and AX86u. Go 1 model higher, ac87u, barely anyone bought those.

When we switch to 7 in about 5-10 years, we should probably buy the WIFI7 - 86u.
Not hating on this deal, but just to put things into perspective: This router has been $219.99 almost continuously since June of last year. While this may be near the lowest price ever, it is less than 10% off from the normal street price of this router.

I bought this last time it was on sale. We no longer have connection issues in the far rooms in our home. I've only had it for a month but so far it has my strong recommendation.

I have one of the TP-Link Mesh systems... It works fine but has been annoying in some cases because of limited control. Is this a better alternative? I have a 4300sqft house to cover (plus I need some outdoor range). Would I need a couple of these to cover the whole house and back patio?

Newer doesn't been better; my range stayed the same or worse; newer standards just are better at doing fine tuning of radio frequencies like ofdma or higher bandwidth to get as close to gigabit per stream but it's at the cost of range

If you want range then mesh or extenders will help; no amount of higher tier routers will help cause antenna is still same size until you boost it with 3 foot long ones

Does this work well throw floors. I need to get a new router as out new house is 3 floors (basement and 2 floor) with the router on the first floor. The second floor and basement keep dropping singes even with it reaching to the back yard. So I do not need range as much as penetration power.

You should get Wifi6E. That's wifi6 v2.0 with all the bugs fixed from wifi6 v1.0 which is this router.

This vs 2-pack Mesh TP-Link XE75 (or a lesser system?)

Our beach condo is basically one long hallway (Front door common room & kitchen->bedroom1->bedroom2->bedroom3) and the cable connection comes in right near the front door. We had been using two of those old Asus T-Mobile AC1900 that were connected by powerline ethernet adapters, one in the front room and one in last bedroom at the back door. It's an old condo built back in the 70s so who knows what's in the walls, but one AC1900 wasn't enough to reach the back bedroom.
Something happened and powerline no longer worked when we opened the condo this year.

The plan we have only offers like 200 down and 10 up, so it seems like overkill to get anything that pushes higher bandwidth. It's the coverage we really need. I just worry something more economical like the TP-Link Deco S4 wouldn't be strong enough to give that back bedroom a reasonable signal...
