I bought a new laptop with office 2021 already installed. What kind of key can be used to unlock/activate it? I'm not crazy about paying Microsoft a monthly or yearly fee (who is).
Yeah if you don't use multiple devices then you probably don't need the subscription service unless you want the cloud storage. Honestly I'm conflicted on the value proposition here. Currently I pay $50 for 12 months of office 365 which would be $4 a month or so but I would rather just view it as a one-time $50 purchase (technically it's 70 but Amazon has it at 50 for prime members and Walmart occasionally will offer 15 months for 70).
The other tricky part though is if you start to take advantage of the cloud storage and you put a lot of important data on it... All of a sudden it's a big headache if you don't want to keep using office cloud storage.
You risk losing the data.
I have the same issue with Google One where I have like 25 GB of Google drive storage, most of it photos.
So I have to pay two bucks a month or 20 bucks a year to extend my storage to 100 GB
I don't know man... There's no perfect answer because storing stuff locally has its own risks as well.
I posted the groupon deal its cheaper on there. Also has the 2021+ version for $35.
Good luck with that. I tried but stopped when I had to download the software from some random site.
Proceed at your own risk!
My virtuall life and finances was not worth the risk of savings to have a license from some random person/company. Groupon is not the full software as you would get with this woot deal. I personally would not risk downloading from someone I don't know - when and if you get hacked, you should understand why.
edit - I'm assuming woot offers your own license key in this deal.

Nothing random about anything as both deals posted for the 2019 and 2021 both take you to the Microsoft website to either A activate the product and download from microsoft direct, or B give you a ISO from microsoft site thats already activated but it does not bind to your account, like the good old days.
Unless you just dont know that setup.office.com is owned by microsoft but thats on you than.
Option A works pretty identical to the woot deal but cheaper.

When I last purchased a key on Groupon it came from "mycodes24" that had requested me to download the office software from not a setup.office.com link.
My intention was not to bash you but to bring awareness to those that may not understand the risk they are taking by purchasing and downloading from some sellers on Groupon.
