As a homeschooler I jump on these types of kits but unless they're from a reputable company they're the worst (and even then the lower cost ones can be hit or miss). The directions are going to be difficult to follow so kids (and their adult helpers) will be frustrated. There will be pieces that are missing or don't quite work the right way ... like the wrong size rubber bands for the guitar or something.
For kits like these ... stick with a more reputable brand ... National Geographic and Discovery can be hit or miss but Klutz and Learning Resources are almost always worth it. But really pick up a library book or just google "how to make X craft for kids" and there will be a teacher or homeschooler that has a blog on how to make a guitar from an oatmeal canister and rubber bands.
