I had the same issue, and after going through two different sets of stools that fell apart within a few years I ended up with these:

I admit I've only had them for a couple of weeks but the fit, finish and quality are already leagues ahead of my last sets. Hopefully that's a good indication of their longevity. Yes, they are assembled with Allen screws as you'd expect. I didn't want to go all out on furniture because I have a two year old running around and I know she's gonna probably do her best to trash them herself lol.
Worth taking a look at, at least! The color I chose was listed as navy blue but it's really a gorgeous smokey grayish-blue.
If not then I find Macy's furniture is my go to brick and mortar store, anything else around here is probably one-off and not available in most areas. Best of luck with your search, I'm sure some other folks will chime in as well.
