Fair enough on your part. Not every company has to get involved in politics imo. It's a whole a lot better than what blizzard did with that kid who wanted to speak up about the Hong Kong protest.
Every company is affected by politics. They have no choice. Keeping war in Ukraine as an example, by continuing doing business as usual in Russia they lost my business (I'm sure I'm not the only one as there are websites dedicated to tracking which companies are still doing business in Russia).
On the other hand, they could have stopped all new sales or pulled out altogether. That would lead to a better company image for those who care and retention of my and like-minded individuals' business, but would sacrifice all profits in Russia in exchange. Valve decided to be driven by the profits and disregard human lives lost with their help. Many other companies decided differently even though profit would guide them towards staying in Russia.
Whatever the final decision was, it would be shallow to think that politics did not play any role in it nor that the politics brought these companies to this decision fork in the first place.
Lastly, me deciding not to buy from Valve and others deciding to continue doing business with them are individual choices. It's great when those choices are informed and made knowing the facts. However, the outcome is an individual decision that everyone gets to make. And that is why I'm proud to be an American.
