Amazon, for some weird reason, has the Takeya Sport Helios pickleball paddle in 16mm standard or long for a huge discount. These are normally $100 paddles. The standard handle is $33.85 and the long handle is $38.64. It shows them as preorders, which is strange because they've been out for about 6 months.

Anything with T700 raw carbon fiber will perform well. That's become the standard in pickleball. And if it's advertised as being "thermoformed" or "unibody construction with edge foam," even better.

There are two "cheap" $50 paddles on Amazon that are pretty much on par with the $200 paddles; they're probably even made in the same factory. One is the Garye Pro XL, the other is the Sport Beats Deft 1. You don't get a warranty with them, but paddles today are built really well anyway.

If you're wanting name brand, highly recommend the Vatic Prism Flash 16mm. You can get it for $99 on Amazon.
I'd recommend beginners to just go get a $10 kit off Amazon that comes with two fiberglass paddles and some balls. Then if you like it, buy some better ones and give the $10 ones to friends so they start playing too.

No. Fiberglass is old tech. You can get cheaper paddles that outplay this one

Those Joolas sold at Sam's, Costco, etc. are the cheaper, budget ones - probably in the same category as the ones your wife purchased, just marked up due to brand name.
About $35 each with bag and balls so yeah I'd consider them "cheaper". The ones from Home Goods were wood and more like ping pong paddles so the Joola's are a slight upgrade!

So confused. Is juciao a brand or a type? The amazon link that's posted here that everyone is recommending takes me to an OXIKEN paddle..

Thanks, if quality is good IMO this is a better option than AE/juciao: GARYE Pickleball Paddle https://a.co/d/hfBGqQT

I had a variety of cheap paddles, eventually took the jump and bought a nicer Selkirk. A couple hundred bucks but I've already replaced it twice due to normal play leading to some cracks. Buy it for life once you decide you like pickleball enough to play for the foreseeable future

Yep, the Garye I mentioned is now $40 instead of $50. Absolute steal for someone wanting a good pickleball paddle.

it's a brand. Everyone thinks it's the exact same as the Joola simply without the logos

What is the draw of pickleball? Is it just that you don't have to be very mobile to play? Its fast paced, but I don't see players needing to run or move much as the court is so small.

I think the main thing is that there's pretty much no jumping. Lol good for bad knees and good for recovery from other sports.

But if you play against a decent tennis player, prepare to get schooled. It's only a matter of time, pro tennis players are going to start dominating the scene. Or maybe they already have

Lol feels kinda nice getting your first ATP though =P

The Garye paddle is no where near as good as Juciao. Let's be clear about that. Sometimes a personal preference but many who use Juciao will confirm, they rival the 200+ paddles. The garye has 1 review.

The product in the link is OXIKEN. Is it just a rebranded juciao?

I'm not familiar with this specific brand, but a bunch of reddit pickleball players (inlcuding me) have bought juiciao among other brands from aliexpress and/or temu and a ton of these paddles are extremely solid and they do compare to the joolas, etc...fir a fraction of the cost

edit:
decided to try one of these despite already having another 5 or so cheap paddles Big Grin

edit:
canceled order. go , like masterz13 : says, for a paddle with t700

Yeah I have a Temu paddle that is just as good as my Joola Hyperion
