    The sequel part supposedly has where Pacino is in present day...

    The heist scene later in the movie was mirrored in LA a few months later by real bank robbers. I still remember the news footage. It was crazy! Life imitating art instead of the other way around.

    Both of those scenes were directly taken from Michael Mann's 1988 L.A. Takedown. It's like a TV movie version of Heat. The whole movie is on YouTube.

    Heat 2 has my money. Even if it's about midichlorians and trade disputes. The original is easily a top ten film.

    Heat 2 is going to be terrible simply because movie making has become a lost art. Knowledge is gone when people retire. Everything is done in front of a green screen now and it doesn't feel the same.

    Correct. In this case the original film was most likely shot on 35mm so it was then scanned to make into a blu-ray or 4k uhd. When that's done it can include visual filters like smoothing, color grading and even re-mastered audio. I read some reviews before I purchased that mentioned less vibrant colors and more of a de-saturated look than the transfer to the blu-ray. There's a bunch of chat about this subject. Supposedly the amped up colors and contrast and color grading on the blu-ray was Warner Bros decision and not Michael Mann's. He was against it. The 4k version is allegedly the way he wanted the film to be color graded and is more true to the theatrical version. All that being said, I personally had no issues with the 4k version and doubt anyone will really notice a large difference in color. The resolution upgrade alone is a great improvement and justifies the watch on 4k. Links below if you want to go down the rabbit hole I have spent way too much time researching.
