Absolute beginner here and wondering if anyone would be willing to weigh in. I'm not in a hurry to buy but, if I can find something now that's under $300 for making simple around the house items (like a wall mount for my Wandvac) , wouldn't say no.
I don't need the ability to print multiple colors, doubt resin will become my jam anytime soon, and don't actually care about printing speed. What I want is something that's a.) easy (enough) to use out of the box and won't require tons of tinkering, and b.) not extremely limited in terms of print size.
How do you think the Neptune 4 Pro stacks up against the Neptune 3 Plus that's on sale in good used condition for $180 on elagoo's website or this one on sale for $299 at BB?

Recommend Bambu A1 mini without ams for your price range, works out of the box, no tinkering, great machine. You will care about speed and the A1 mini checks that box.

These open units are relatively stable in terms of not spontaneously combusting, but every 3D printer off-gasses melted plastic into the air and these open printers have less control over where it goes.
If you have a room with proper ventilation, then these units are less of a worry.
Otherwise, the amount of time required to tinker with them is also time you could be breathing this stuff in.

OP, where will you get your 3D models? Places like Thingaverse offer a lot of off the shelf models but if they don't have what you need can you create your own? I find the big value with these printers is being able to print my own designs (even if that design is a very simple part). Since I've been a CAD user for years my only issue was figuring out which low cost option I would use (I'm not paying $3k+ for a full seat of a professional program). There are a lot of free/low cost options. Learning some type of 3D modeling is a game changer for that devices.
My brother has had this printer for about a year now (and an older Neptune 3) and has churned out a steady stream of quality (mostly Star Wars) prints. The printer bed size is larger than many. I have the 3, also, but I find it to be finicky.

UPDATE (April 25, 2024): Bambu Lab immediately updated it's policy on software update support after the community voiced concern that the flagship X1-Carbon would soon be obsolete. The company states that "products will continue to work for their entire lifetime, with the same feature availability." Expiration dates were extended by two years for bugfixes and feature updates, and a new line was added for "guaranteed security patch updates" extending two years further.
wow two more whole years support for their flagship $1k printer. what a joke
Klipper firmware on Neptune 4 series makes it an absolute no brainier over the 3 series. Buck up for the PLUS and you'll be happy with quality, ease of use (lack of tinkering), and build volume. Oh, as a bonus....it's pretty fast, too! I love mine and rarely ever use my poor 3 Pro.

Please also consider safety in your decision.

Avoid Bambu. Company isn't even supporting the X1C past this year while Creality still has updates for it's 7 yr old ender 3.

Not true. They've updated the support page.

The Neptune 4 is amazing. It's so much faster with higher quality prints.
The downsides are that it's loud and uses a non-standard nozzle.
Ask me anything specific if you want, I have both printers next to me
