Agreed. After reading the horror stories I'd never deal with them directly. Sometimes they have similar deals on their Amazon store for only a few dollars more. Worth looking for the peace of mind of a return is warranted.
Checked..
The 32gb/1tb is $529, worth the extra cost imo. No waiting months for a shipment.
Unless you are in a hurry, 7840s are dropping in price rapidly as the 8000 series is becoming available.
And the strix/9000 minis will be out this fall, driving down the 8000 series. Yes, tech gets cheaper in time, but you have to dive in at some point. Wait till you need it, then buy it, accepting that it will likely be cheaper in a few months.

if you want the best tech, you have to buy the latest gen, and then sell it a year later. sort of like leasing the equipment. sucks, but youre not going to buy something once and have what you want 5 years from now, let alone 10 or 20 years.
i have thrown out so much electronics its gross. i had 3 laptops sitting on the shelf for years... cant even sell them at a certain point. Can't use them for any software thats recent either. in the trash they go, when i should have sold them when i had the chance.
You can at least bring to Best Buy for free recycling...

I'm tempted but considering I already have a Beelink SER6 (R7 7735HS), I'm probably better off waiting for now.
Ive bought three UM690s in the last month for right around 500 shipped each. Both times they shipped from hong kong via DHL and arrived in 3-5 days to Indiana. Very happy with the build quality and everything so far.
I've read that Beelink is MUCH more reliable and stand behind their products. They also don't need to be reset like minisforum. I wish we had more reputable companies making some of these low cost mini PCs with good ryzen chips. Lenovo makes some but they cost more and are power hungry Intel chips. Asus makes a super expensive one with a GPU but too big for VESA mounts behind a monitor.
Does anyone know of better options?
Zotac makes some very good ones with even up to 4070 supers. Price and availability is the issue
Never enough USB ports on these mini PCs. I use a lot of USB ports.
USB is a shared-bandwidth bus. If you only have a single controller, there is nothing functionally-different between using a hub and using native ports. The tiny overhead of an extra step is practically-irrelevant.

That is great to know. It's definitely something I considered, but then I would to have a hub hanging off this space-saving PC. It does take away from its space saving quality. For me, the charm of a tiny PC would be to be able to put it on top of my desk. A tiny PC with an additional hub, and all kinds of cables hanging out of that hub, doesn't sound good anymore...for me. Since this is a money saving site, I'd add that a hub would be a mandatory additional expense. I appreciate the reassurance that a hub would cause no performance issues.

BTW - how is the noise level on the SER6?

However, I live in an apartment facing the street and the PC is located right by the balcony so ambient noise is likely higher.
yes, it does

They are essentially the same chip with some BS AI NPU.
