Just like in the 50's and 60's, Silvertones are made by Danelectro. This model is from the U1, U2, and 56 lineage. I have a Dano 56pro from around 2005. Same basic shape, in the solid, not two-tone finish. Dano reintroduced this style around 2000, and upgraded the electronics soon after. They're made in Korea. I have a bunch of guitars. Mine's the most fun of the lot. It has a unique sound, with a taste of jangle. It's lighter weight than comparable solid bodies, as it's sealed, semi-hollow. 56Pros, the top of this line, are almost impossible to find. You can find some U2s. They run $300-$600. Dano makes a great version of a Mostrite, and a flock of others. I had a friend when I started playing who had the then current version of the Silvertone with the amp carrying case. What fun. At $200, you might like a decent Squire better, but you won't get the comments a bottle head Dano gets.
