Fast forward to a few days ago and I bought an open box 4070 (this model) for $1600 (now selling for $1400). I figured with saving that kind of money I could live with the compromises of 16GB and a 4070.
Aaaaand I don't feel the same way about it. This one is underperforming my "old" one by about 5-10% in the GPU department.
The hinge being so wobbly is not great. You won't notice it at all when actually using it which I guess is what's important but it just makes it feel cheaper. Also there's something that makes the hinge creak/pop when you move it. At any rate, it's not dead silent as it should be.
Also the bulid in general while okay, creaks a lot when you push on it or move it around. Nothing like a MacBook Pro.
Although the trackpad and keyboard are good for a Windows laptop, again...it's not like a MBP.
The saving grace is the screen and the speakers. The speakers are genuinely amazing. I applaud them for finally getting it right. But the screen while beautiful and OLED, has some issues. It has some off-axis color shifting which you don't see on desktop-sized OLEDs. Also there is still text-fringing, especially noticeable against dark backgrounds. I generally like glossy screens but I don't love this one because of the color-shifting.
All in all it's not terrible, but I just think there's far better value to be had elsewhere if you're okay with slightly thicker and an IPS screen. I still would consider the 4080 version if it ever goes on sale since it's now regularly in stock it seems.

Only thing you're losing is speaker quality and an IPS screen with 80% DCI-P3 coverage. But the reviews I've seen are all extremely positive on the screen and the overall package. And hey, you're getting 32GB like you should and it's even upgradeable.

The G16 screen wobbles pretty noticeably while the Lenovo hinge is rock solid. The G16 fans are also much louder and more annoying.
