I guess this the "Mae West" of the boating world. Why do they call it "offshore"? The web page does state that it can be be renewed (with a new CO2 canister?).

When I was a kid, I got to play with sailboats (remember the one with the smoking company sail?) and I really resented having to wear a foam life jacket. Later, I got to swim without that garbage (up to 1/4 mile for my Scout merit badge).

My point is that wearing an inflatable life preserver is a nuisance. Yes, flying from Miami to Bimini is over ocean and requires one. And I do not oppose that. But I have to state that it will be annoying.

I guess safety is sometimes really annoying. For what it's worth...

I think all inflatable pfd's are type V, I think these are supposed to behave like type I / II.

Although I don't see that written anywhere. On this site it says they behave like type II
