Broken pipe in hot tub ... how to remove siding?

24,833 1,948 March 14, 2010 at 12:08 PM
We have a hot tub on our deck and one of the pipes has burst. Can I remove the siding without damaging it to get to the pipes? or do these hot tubs drop into the wood-paneled stand?

Panel that is off the front gives access to the motor/etc (cannot see broken pipe from this vantage point)

Take a look at the manufacturer web site to get details for yours, but I was able to replace siding on my Hot Springs. If you happen to break one, THIS [backyardplus.com] is a great place for replacement parts if they carry your brand.

Thanks, I'll check out that site. We have a Hot Springs as well, Sovereign (Model: I) but I'm unsure the year as it came with our house.

Whoa ... too freaking cool. That site you showed me allows you to type in the serial number of your spa in order to determine the correct parts. Turns out, mine was manufactured the last quarter of '96 - original selling price ~$6,500 Shocking

Came with the house (bought ~'04), I have no idea what the previous owners paid for it. Looks like I can get similar one from Costco now for ~$4k. That's not an option, if its too cost-prohibitive to fix this spa, it'll sit here breeding mosquitoes for awhile.

Hmm... I like where you're headed:

but I imagine the cost of ice adds up.

Very eerie -- I have the Sovereign I (1999-2007 era) also and I just replaced the diverter valve and the three filters this week. Replaced some broken panels a while back.

edit -- they were real fast at shipping, have very good prices from my research, and have online parts diagrams that make repairs pretty easy. I too got mine with the house purchase and figured out it was a 2001. Nice thing is that Sovereign 1 parts are all the same for a decade. Hot Springs has online manuals too.

With the water-logged cover it must weigh 500 lbs empty. I'm not crazy about flipping it over. No clue what will rattle loose either.

You just need to cut open the side of the spa to gain access...

all you will need is some pvc cement and couplings, if its the lines ruptured. I would cut a new access and insulate the whole thing when your done.

Thanks - problem is that I have no idea where the ruptured line is.
