oh, and don't pull the fuse, i know for a fact that our drls share the fuse with other things so you'll lose a lot of other functions if you just pull the fuse.

I'd say don't bother. They won't drain the battery and they aren't pointed at your windsheld.

yeah, they're also useful cuz a lot of people are too dumb to check before changing lanes...usually seeing your lights in their mirrors can catch their attention. the only reason why i disabled mine was so my HIDs wouldn't burn out.

I've never heard of HID lights burning out. Unlike a filament bulb, there really isn't something to break or burn off except for the contacts inside the bulb. HIDs use an electrical arc rather than a radiating piece of metal.

okay,s o they don't burn out but when your DRLs are on, the lights are getting less power than they'd get when your headlight is on at night (DRLs usually detect this depending on the car). The HIDs will just keep flickering and will eventually die because of this. This is what happens when you put HIDs in a car that wasn't meant to have HIDs, lol.

Aside from it being safer for your headlights to always be on I will mention that disabling your Daytime Running Lights without notifying your insurance company could be illegal. If you recieve a discount for such a feature then I would assume it would be insurance fraud to continue recieving it...

Also, the reason there is a discount is because it IS safer to have DRLs...My car does not have DRLs but my headlights are on whenever im in the car...5 years of driving since I was 17 and have had no accidents.

Oh and:
[rant]
There should be a law that requires cars with DRLs to also turn on the rear tail-lights...I cant even count the number of times ive come up fast on an invisible car with headlights on but no tail-lights in the rain.....

I guess this could also be caused by the windshield wipers being on...but its not just when it rains sometimes...

if you're coming up on cars you can't see, maybe you should get glasses...or stop driving.

Unless you have night vision I dont think you could see an old man driving a car 30 miles below the speed limit without tailights when its a downpour and its dark.

unless, of course, you have your headlights on.

Yes, with my headlights on, I can see cars that don't have their headlights on. Even in the rain.

i'm disabling DRL for the same reason, to preserve HIDs. What causes the HID to flicker? I had a set of HID die on my other car and I could not figure out why (besides possible product quality issues)

HIDs, given optimal conditions, shouldn't die or flicker except after many thousands of hours use. If they are dying, it could be due to gas leaking from the bulbs (Poor sealing), poor electronics, which could burn out, or the wiresthemselves. Considering the bulbs do get hot, one of the wires may have burned up.

Whatever the case, merely keeping them on shouldn't diminish the life of HID bulbs. Even the Xenon filled blue-colored halogens would get many thousands of hours of life (the regular yellow-colored halogens, even more).

If your After-market HID lights are going out, it's most certainly a quality issue.

i think the ballast on my old set went out. Before it would flicker and turn off on its own, but i can always turn the switch to bring it back alive. it worked like this for maybe half a year before it finally flickered with out ever turning on again.
