I am reminded of this quote by Andy (the 'nard dog) of the show The Office. He said right before joining the Scranton branch that he would rise to the number two in no time and his main strategy was "repetition."

Really? Your comparing unemployment levels from a time where our government forced millions out of the private labor markets out of the country (soldiers were technically 'employed'), replacing their production with unskilled women and elderly to what happened when they got home and entered the private sector? No kidding unemployment is higher when you don't draft people into forced military service. That doesn't equal a prosperous economy.

And doesn't it make sense that 'gdp' shrank after the war? How was private consumption at that point?
