If they won't let you skip a payment they should at least talk to you about refinancing. Maybe also check with your bank or credit union to see about a refi, too. It might extend the length of the loan but it would almost certainly get the payments down to a manageable level too.

Roll Really? Before I moved to boonies I was running 8 to 10 miles a day and doing weights for an hour after each run. Now I lift and haul trees around the property to try to clear it. Granted, I don't do it every day like when I like before, but I'm still the same 185 lbs I was. I've pretty much gone from training like Ivan Drago to training like Rocky. Flex

vviles, what do you think about the book Glasses2
The movie was probably one of the top 5 worst movies I've ever seen.

doubtful Frown

perhaps you could offer a lump sum buyout (since you have ~13 mos remaining), which could cut out some interest - yet, from what you indicated, that is not what you are interested in doing

you may wanna consider what you could get for resale now, and purchase preowned vehicle free&clear

with no job, i seriously doubt i can refinance. don't you have to be employed for that? also, my rate is only 3.9% as it is. i don't see it getting much lower than that, which means my payments wouldn't change by much, right? and i'm really really really not wanting to extend how long i make payments on this car. i've got a car that will last me another 10 years with no problems at all, probably even more than that. there's no way i'm selling it and buying used just so i can get out of a year's worth of high payments. i've been with it for almost 4 years now, there's no turning back now. LMAO

that being said, my payoff amount right now is $8,300. my car is worth almost twice that amount just as a trade-in to a dealership. i'd get even more for it trying to sell it on my own. the whole reason i decided to buy the car was because i planned to have it for a very long time and i knew it would be a good investment.

i just didn't plan for all of this Frown

AG I've heard of credit card "protection plans" where they'll make your payments if you lose your job or something. You typically have to pay for those which makes me think it's sort of a scam but maybe Hyundai has some similar scheme. You can't be the first person to have financial hardship and it doesn't do them much good to chase you around and repossess your car in six months or whatever. The point is I'm sure they'd rather work with you than just flat out say "no," but you have to call them and ask.

If you refinance for five year loan, then your payment will drop significantly. Then once you get a job you can still make the large monthly payment you were originally making.

As far as approval goes, not sure. Since your car is worth more then the loan, you shouldn't have too much of a problem. They might ask for a co-signer.

Are you eligible for unemployment?

Maybe. I had to defer a couple payments on one of my cars years ago, and the bank with the loan for my Subaru sent me a letter offering to let me defer my December payment for a fee of like $30 or $50. I'd call and ask.

I just got back from the gym with my girlfriend, and she said that most lenders have a forgiveness payment, or something along those lines. She was pretty sure that if I called Honda, they'd let me skip a payment. So I'm going to give them a call.

PS - Yes, you read that right. I WENT TO THE MUHFAWKIN GYM YALL Flex

I have 15 payments left, and if refinancing means extending those monthly payments, then I'm gonna go ahead and say NO to the refi option.

I filed my initial unemployment claim online, but it hasn't been processed yet so I can't see the status of it online. I wouldn't be able to collect until mid-March anyways, when my severance runs out. Calling the ESC office is on my list today.

See above, that's what I'm going to do. Biggrin2

I'm also going to see if my apartment complex will let me sign a 15-month lease instead of a 12-month lease. Maybe that'll help lessen the rent increase a little? If they won't extend it, then I'm definitely asking for new carpet with my lease renewal laugh out loud
