Personally, I'm interested in keeping other people from building Utopia, because the more you believe you can create heaven on earth the more likely you are to set up guillotines in the public square to hasten the process. -- James Lileks

Hitler loosened gun laws, allowing for easier private ownership of guns. Mussolini never banned guns at all, and neither did Pol Pot (although there weren't many guns in his country anyway). Stalin and Castro only came to power in the first place *because* of lots of private gun ownership. Tyranny hasn't historically been linked to "gun control." Alex Jones is a big liar. If you want an example of gun control, you can find plenty. Look at Australia. Nazi Germany, though, isn't an example. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edit: Making it legal for your hobnail-jackboot-thug,party member supporters to acquire firearms and illegal for your opponents to do so is hardly loosening of gun laws. Neither is it an action oriented at securing the most liberty for individuals. And now you've come to suggest tyrants come to power because we don't have enough tyranny... ![]() ![]() ![]()

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control under one of the bloodiest despots in modern history, Joseph Stalin. From 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. In 1928, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews, Christians, gypsies, the mentally ill, and others, who were unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. In 1935, China established gun control. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents were unable to defend themselves and were rounded up and exterminated. In 1964, Guatemala established gun control. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. In 1970, Uganda, under brutal dictator Idi Amin, established gun control. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. In 1956, Cambodia established gun control. From 1975 to 1977, one million "educated" people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. That places total victims who lost their lives at the hands of their own governments because of gun control at approximately 56 million in the last century. Science is much more than a body of knowledge. It is a way of thinking. This is central to its success. Science invites us to let the facts in, even when they don’t conform to our preconceptions.

Looks like good advice, I would also add wasp spray to the list, the cans that say "shoots 20ft". A friend of mine in college always carried a can under the drivers seat. One day someone tried to jump them as they were getting the car and he shot them with wasp spray in the face. That guy is thinking twice now about trying to rob people.
