Whatever happened to firing people who didn't do their job?

She is an elected official, so she would have to be impeached or resign.

IMO she should resign since her job duties changed to conflict with her personal beliefs.

Asides from what MLV posted, there are also unions, so... look around

And she probably didn't want to leave her job if she is working on years for a pension.

*Not that I don't think she needs to do her damned job...just pointing it out.

She makes $80k/yr + benefits, in a rural county with 30% poverty and a far below-average cost of living. That makes her a freakin' queen by redneck standards. And then throw in that her son is one of her deputies, so the two together pull in some major bucks.

She probably figures she can use this to get elected to the legislature, where she'll get even more money and benefits.

She wouldn't be the first person to use religious fanaticism as an escalator to wealth and political power.

Most Appointed or Elected positions are not "represented" therefore the union angle only counts if an underling has a grievance...assuming they are represented.

Too bad she's not a Muslim woman. It would be fascinating watching two protected minority classes in America battle it out.

Also, not sure why political threads like this one, the gay marriage SCOTUS ruling, etc. are not kicked over to the Podium.

Podium mods usually prefer we don't send threads over there...so if it gets too politically in here.. we'll just lock it. If people can avoid doing that and leave a more lounge spirit we can leave it open.

I actually used to live in that town, Morehead. It's a super super pretty town next to Cave Run Lake and Daniel Boone National Forest. Small but it's a college town so most people there usually either work/go to the college or want to live near the lake.

Reason I bring any of that up is that's where I got my marriage license because we lived there when we got married. Don't know if she worked there then. Just weird to keep seeing Rowan in the news...such a small town I never hear about it ever and now it's everywhere.

The clerk is a self-admitted fundamentalist who believes that every word in the Bible is a literal, direct order from God. I read she was leading Bible study classes in jail, which is a violation of God's will:

"…the women should keep silence in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says. If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church." 1 Corinthians 14:34-35
