It has to be sealed properly and at high temperatures the seal breaks down and chips and the mineral leaches into the food.

Food grade silicone has no flavor or odor. It's used all the time in industrial food processing and you probably didn't even know it.

you can set them in a muffin pan if you want, I just set mine on a cookie sheet. You must wash it first, just like a silicone baking mat or grilling mat.

I have no idea what brand mine is, I just searched "silicone muffin pan" and bought whatever came up for like $5. I originally bought it for making mini quiche's and eggs, but now I do mini meatloaf...

I paid full price for a few of these a few years ago and they seem of good quality. Being a guy I can't tell the difference but use them a few times a year and like them.

I'm not OP but I have used silicone muffin cups and tart cups that are separate from a pan. The expensive ones have been less likely to smell but all of them are an absolutely PIA to clean. Expensive...
