I haven't used the A33 or D3100, so I can't say how reliable the auto-focus is on the camera, but, if I remember my graduation, its not exactly an fast-paced thing, so it shouldn't be too hard to...

Thanks for the advice! Yeah I considered a point and shoot camcorder and a point and shoot camera, but this would not only be for the graduation. I'm studying comp sci and we don't have much room to...

Seems like overkill for recording a graduation. You have to realize a DSLR is only going to give you better pictures and video than a point-and-shoot or camcorder if you know how to use them. Also,...

Actually, the "best technology" was the $10,000+ RD-175 that came out in the early 90's, and actually used A-mount lenses on an SLR body, with a three-chip CCD that produced 1.8mp images. I think...

Best technology at the time.....for Sony, but that doesn't mean you can call them a DSLR. That'd be like saying that I've been using a Sony Blu-ray players for almost 20 years. It was Laser disc...

No genius, not comparing D5100 & T3i to A100. Merely trying it out to see which one to purchase. But they were the best the technology offered at that time. That was the point I was making.

It's not splitting hairs. Those cameras had point and shoot sized sensors and the not able to change out lens. Splitting hairs is saying the A33 is not a DSLR because it doesn't reflect the image...

The lens is made by sigma. It isnt as sharp as the sony, but I like the colors of the images better. for that price, the lens is a great deal

I'd definitely go for the Nikon 3100 over this. Nikon has a superior lens array, and arguably better photo quality. I don't think the video recording is better though. If you don't use the viewfinder...

Go look up DSC-D700, which was introduced in 1999. While not true DSLR, it had a SLR form factor. That was my first camera in 2000. Spent $1400 for that. Then I switched to DSC-F707, 828and finally...

How does this compare to the Nikon D3100, which seems to be around 500. I'm really interested in getting a full HD DSLR to take pictures and also record my graduation. Any recommendations?
