You could use one of the apps like SeekDroid to track location. It does amazingly well indoors too. You can hide the app too so that its not visible. You can also send remote messages as well.

cool, but an fyi that remote software still requires your son to interact with the program to let you in, you cant just remote in at 3am when he is asleep.
