Renaming the file .rmvb to .mp4 usually works fine on Samsung UN40D5800. This only occours when you try to play .rmvb files from a USB stick. You won't see any issue when you're playing it through PC...

Something called Synology seems to support your RMVB, you might be SOL and have to convert it.

I just tried Plex media server last night. It doesn't look like it's doing any trancoding while I am connecting it from my Samsung TV.

You'll need to use something other that windows media center as your dlna sever. Check out this chart: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_UPnP_AV_media_servers

Playon Player should do this. Although not sure it's free, you can get a free trial and if it works buy the program.
