Agree, I had a pair of "similar" tools and did not work for me in any application. I never applied it to pool impeller or plumbing though. It didn't work for my car oil filter, was very hard to use...

I've actually found the thick rubber bands that come on some veggies are great for loosening lids on jars. Just strap it on and the extra friction gives you a ton more grip.
