A semi auto 12 gauge would be better for in home defense, you can't miss with a 12 gauge and the pellets from a shotty won't carry through as many walls.

As would a 22lr pistol with high fps ammo, 9mm is the sweet spot imo.
I'd take more rounds over larger rounds any day for self defense.
