And your argument might have been valid if the 2DS were not a budget system, which means cost-cutting measures and certain features getting nixed from the design, including, yes, Amiibo support.

3DS launched early 2011. 2DS is a stripped down version of the 3DS at a bargain price. Not an upgraded version. All hardware to launch after Amibo was released supports it.

The current generation 3DS has Amibo support built into it. This is just to support older generation hardware. Hardware that came out long before Nintendo introduced Amibos.
