i did thought of the monoprice also, but the chinese QC make me worry, i've read that planar headphone have a high failure rate because that thin "diaphragm" is hard to produce, that's why Audeze cost so much. some reviewer indicate the M1060 have QC problem and they exchange or return their pair, on the other hand the cheaper M560 got a great review, the word is its built like a "tank".
I had the M1060 from Monoprice and the left ear cup went out completely in a couple days usage. They did sound phenomenal when they worked but I had to send them back. I'm tempted to purchase this deal but $299 to $699 is a big difference.

I hear you. Probably have been lucky with mine. I used the rest of the money on the teac ud-301 (also on sale on Slickdeals, damn you as). This expenditure actually accrued my productivity because of the many hours working and relistening to everything in my music collection. Also another benefit of this that I did not plan for is video games. Damn the level of details and precision this gave you is crazy! Just try to play overwatch with good cans and Dolby atmos! Mindblowing.
If you have the money get the audeze, definitely a sure bet

Audeze is the brand of the headphones on this deal. They are a very niche audiophile brand that makes high end planar magnetic headphones. These types of headphones us a very thin vibrating membrane to produce sound instead of the traditional dynamic driver. They are more costly due to the difficult/low production of these specific type of drivers.

well sometime adorama have the combo sales with LCD-2 and IFI micro idsd black label for $995, which makes the LCD-2 almost be $499, so when comparing $499 LCD-2 vs $300 M1060, i will prefer the LCD-2 more, it's alot better established brand, better quality control, ....etc.
that is if you want the combo together, or just buy the combo and sell off the IFI black label and keep the LCD-2.
some review are saying the M1060 are comparable to LCD-3 istead of LCD-2, because the M1060 spec is almost the same as LCD-3. if it wasnt for the review about bad quality control, for $300, i might give it a try. maybe wait a year or so later when they refine the quality of it.
I owned some LCD3's for awhile. The sound was absolutely jawdropping for jazz. Sadly it was really uncomfortable and gave me a headache. Wound up gravitating back towards rock with my X00 headphones and selling my LCD3/Deckard.

I'm not that guy, but I do own the mahogany cup x00's and was also able to borrow a coworker's ebony cups from his pair. The difference is so small I'm still not sure if I was just making it up in my head based on my expectations. I say buy whatever you think looks the best.
