Short answer: probably not.

Longer answer: It depends on what you want to do with it. The T6:

1) has higher potential quality, with more mpixels and a better sensor. With the right lens on it can take it can take fabulous pictures that can blow up as large as you could afford. But as somebody as already noted, you're not going to get the maximum quality out of this camera with the kit lenses, especially the 75-300.
2) Has a higher frame rate for things like sports and wildlife.
3) Takes a wide range of lenses, some that are even affordable.
4) Is much bigger.
5) I'd consider the practical reach of the two camera's closer than math would make it appear. While the SX50 nominally has almost three times the reach (1200mm vs. 450mm effective), the T6 allows for higher useable ISOs giving you faster shutter speeds that make it more likely that the picture will turn out in the first place.
6) If you haven't used an SLR, there's also the "you always have the wrong lens on when you need it" factor that comes with the ability to switch lenses.

The SX50:
1) Is smaller (especially when you consider lugging around the 75-300mm lens), lighter.
2) Takes good enough pictures for most normal uses.

Bottom line, if you're happy with your SX50 how you use it, then it's not an improvement. The T6 is a great gateway camera into the bottomless pit of SLR ownership, capable of truly great pictures, but has it's own limitations (size for instance) as well. At this price, it's a pretty amazing cost/quality tradeoff.

For absolute Beginners out there, I suggest you buy T6i. If your budget is around $800, then get a 70d/80d refurb. you will be set for quite some time before you outgrow it and want to upgrade. Please See that Canon Refurb are as good as new with same 1 year warranty. The 70d refurb that i got had 38 clicks.

$350 AR for this combo plus the pro-100 printer... that deal rolls around a cpl times a year if you don't mind the rebate. gets your camera cost down to $250ish if you sell the printer.

Wondering the same thing. Would this be a good upgrade over a Canon Powershot SX50 HS?

Just have to throw in... the 70-300 is a TERRIBLE lens. Easily the worst I've ever used. Even stopped down and on a tripod the images were just pillow soft and every focal range. Maybe I was using an exceptionally bad copy, but it was painful.

+1, I also have the SX50, wondering if it would be an upgrade.

I should've hopped on that deal before. Any idea how often it comes around? I need to get a camera in next month or two. Those deals were through B&H photo on ebay right?

You're saving anywhere from $50-$150 compared to buying this new, depending on the sale.

Also this would be a good upgrade from the SX50 HS, but you all should know the t6 is a beginner level DLSR. Great for people who want to use the "auto" function and produce great shots, with enough features to explore your own manual options as you get more comfortable and knowledgeable.

Looks like a good deal to me. That 75-300mm lens is probably worth selling to make it cheaper. IIRC it doesn't have autofocus and you'll want that. I'd say any DSLR is better than most any point and shoot.

How is this FP when new ones with printers and extra are $20 more? Thumbs way down.

Thanks for the info. For someone trying to really get into photography on a budget, would you recommend something a little better?
