So while shopping for the LeEco 55" tv I see an Asus RT-AC1900 router with a $45 price tag.

Brickseek shows multiple hits around my area for $45 but YMMV

It looks just like the RT-A68 models but with a faster cpu inside. Not sure of any other differences but it is Merlin compatible. Should be easier than converting the T-Mobile version.

There was a deal posted on this a little over a month ago for 25 cents less but I don't think anyone was re-creating it. Hopefully this works better for some.

Yes. Additionally this same deal has been posted multiple times by multiple people for over a year now. Just try searching on TM-1900 and walmart. The other threads also provide a wiki that tells you how to upgrade the firmware to run asus or 3rd party. It should show show both B&M and YMMV in the title as the majority of these were sold out a long time ago.
Just recently Tanga was selling "open box" versions for $59.99. The one I ordered as backup for the one I ordered directly from T-mobile for the same price new came in "new condition" with all original accessories although as usual with Tanga expect to wait up to a month to get your item.
I would give Brickseek a chance. The hard part will be getting an employee to look it up and check the stock in back.

I added YMMV in the post but I don't think I can edit the title. I think this is a better deal than for the TM-1900 because you don't have to do that extra work downgrading the T-Mobile firmware and then converting it to Asus.
No, you should not. Brickseek is typically on the money. The key is to cross reference NOT Walmart.com but the local inventory of the store. Google the store you're looking for. And then go to that store's particular website there should be a field on that page that allows you to search that store inventory with sku. If that shows in Stock they might have it. Your challenge is to convince them to go look for it. Rarely you'll get lucky and find them on the shelf (clearance or router section). Now, if it does show in Stock on Walmart.com for same day pick up (even with the higher quoted price) then your chances of finding are even higher. Good luck.

I would take this for $45 in a heartbeat but not sure if its worth the drive, especially when it may be inaccurate inventory.
