those are over the ear. i have been using it for quite a few trips.
the BT connection is solid, noise cancelling is okay, i mean it is pretty good in airplane. Is QC35 (used a few times) or 1000X (never used it, but saw review) better? probably in a quieter environment. but i bet you cannot differentiate them on airplane
my biggest complain about those ear phone are
1. there is a piece of hard plastic pointing right at your ear canal which is supposed to protect the speaker. this design bug the hell of out me because it often press again part of ear and cause discomfit after an hour or so. i might just use dermal tool to remove the plastic protector entirely
2. air circulation is poor. i had to make sure i let my ear breath every so often.
3. microphone is on the bottom of the headphone. Horrible idea. when you walk between terminals, the wind noise get picked up by the microphone and you get the very unpleasant sound.
Great NC headphones for music.
But for movies/games there will be noticeable lag, unfortunately. Only reason why I returned mine.
Quick search online shows that the noise cancelling is noticeably better on the 1000x, but the audio quality is roughly the same. Just got a pair of the black headphones, TU'd OP!
I have these and I love them, but I wish I went with 1000x. I travel every week for work and I think the difference is worth it in retrospect. If you're not as worried about the noise cancelling, these are amazing.
These are on ear? Manufacturers should only make over ear because they are more comfortable and shouldn't cost that much more over on ear.

your point 2 is irrelevant. if the headphones allow air to come in, they will also allow ambient noise to come in thereby reducing noise cancellation effectiveness. even qc35, which is the best NC headphone AND are extremely comfortable, you'd have to take it off for your ears to breathe.

well.. if i have to take qc35 off every 2 hours for my ears to breath, i need to take this off every 45 min. the QC35 has quite a bit more room on ear.
not a bad headphone by any means, it is good enough for market price (and a joke at MSRP)
These are great headphones, and the sound is great but not really meant for audiophiles by any means. Comfort is really good as I originally thought the opening for the ears wouldn't be big enough as I have huge ears, and to my surprise they fit just right, A little snug but very comfy. A previous commenter mentioned his ears touching a plastic protector for the speakers, I didn't notice my ears touching or getting fatigued from any plastic pieces and my ears protrude quite a bit. I will admit they get a little sweaty/hot pretty quick though. This might be because of the material the ear pads are made of which is my main complaint of the headphone. It is not the same pleather used in the XB950BT's 1000X's and feels really cheap, reminiscent of headphones in the ~40 dollar range. Also when I have them on me head and I press on the cups I can hear them air out (it's actually quite a loud noise) and it just seems like the padding inside of the pads is a very cheap material, just from pressing the pads down it feels as if it is a very very cheap foam. Doesn't come close to the nicer memory foam you find on some more expensive pads. Another minor complaint I have is that the headband adjustment is really loose, and I know this isn't just mine cause I got my hands on a couple demo units and they all felt this way. The XB950's had a much stronger system (Although it felt cheaper). I got mine refurbished for 125 and at around that price I'd recommend them to anyone, even at 175 they're a pretty good buy!

Weird I have these headphones and never had that problem. Maybe you got a defective one.
