Not really a big deal for many but definitely not for renters as you will leave huge holes in the wall if you ever want to uninstall it.

Get a stud finder for $25 and save yourself.

Stud finders are also overpriced and sometimes not reliable. A strong magnet (you can extract them from an old hard drive for free) covered in tape to keep the wall from scuffing, is an easier way to find studs.

Yeah I had a similar experience doing a TV wall mount. The studs weren't where I needed them so I had to drill a piece of wood between 2 studs to get the mount centered which for a product like this would be unsightly.
