Does the instant pot not come with a lid? What's the reason you would buy this separately?

It comes with a pressure cooker type lid. This is for sautéing meats etc. prior to pressure cooking.

You use this lid for slow cooking or making yogurt. Really any function of the IP that doesn't require pressure cooking.

But do you need to use this lid? Why can't you just use the appropriate settings with the pressure-capable lid?

You don't need it. The lid that comes with it is all you need. The clear glass just lets you check on it without taking the lid off.

We use ours for rice, after it's made and it's on "keep warm".

If you serve food from the pot, it's a lot nicer to have guests use a see thru lid. Otherwise people (kids especially) pass it by thinking you just left an appliance out.

Thanks, bought from amazon warehouse for 9.83.

A lot of people don't realize that the instant pot seals so well with it's current lid that when using the slow cooker function, some recipes become very watery.

I bought the glass lid years ago too. I like it because I can put the leftover in the pot with the glass lid straight to the fridge.

For the yogurt makers on here, is that lid necessary, because all though it's a great price, I don't need more things in my kitchen.

You may keep the unused one in basement ☺️
I always like glass lids!
