But Bargoon, marriage isn't just from church. Chinese buddhist are married w/o christianity and so are all the other married couples who aren't religious. You can't be ego-centric and say that marriage is only from the Christian church.

So much races are out there w/o church. Marriage is a basic commitment idea in human nature.
In this country it is.

Not really. So you believe denying basic human rights is right?

I agree with Brgn, mostly. Marriage, in my opinion, should be 1) a federal institution for the purpose of property ownership, taxation, visitation rights, etc and 2) a religious instution IF DESIRED. A married couple would be married civilly, but religiously only if they wanted to be.
Exactly. That's how I see getting around this. Change what we think of as marriage in this country (legally) to civil unions, or whatever you want to call it, for everyone - gay and straight alike. Give marriage back to the church as an additional step the religious can take if so desired.

Historically, yes. You didn't used to go to a justice of the peace to get married. You had to go to a minister.

That's your opinion. I think it's a valued part of our history and very important.

Emma's asleep in my shirt. I love it when she does that. Blush

When she was a puppy, I'd put her down my shirt, she could sit on my bra in between my boobs and peek out the neck of my shirt. I'd walk around and clean up/whatever with her there. She still likes to sleep there when she's really tired, irritated, whatever. It's so sweet. She doesn't fit sitting on my bra anymore...but at night when I'm not wearing a bra, I can just flip my shirt around under her to support her butt when I'm sitting here and slouching in the chair.

Well, they think you're wrong. And there's more of them. That's how democracy works. Deal with it.
problem is america isn't a democracy. its a republic. the framers didn't trust the people. so they had them elect the "elite" to decide things. in the 1900's when there was distrust and abuse, they passed the proposition system in ca, so the people could talk about the issues that interested them. its been decades since that was the case here. basically anyone who has 2 mill to spend can put somtehing on the ballot.

democracy in essence ensure the majority view over the minority. one of the main reasons we have a republic is to ensure the minority view point from bias and things. if we went by this definition, we could say slavery is still acceptable.bible clearly says slavery is fine, and that ti created the notion of master/slavery.

we accept people are equal regardless of skin color, but sexual orientation is still taboo.

as to the "wall of seperation" that's in the federalists papers. all the constitutions says is that the us will not establish a national religion. doesn't mean anything that the us can't accept religious concepts, or have the only presidents ever to run are christians.
