I was lucky enough to get these in the 2 pack deal for free after coupon/price mistake a couple weeks ago and they're solid. The base is sturdy and the magnets are strong.

BTW, don't you mean the deal is $3.96 for one? $8.99 is the price before promotion. There's a promotion for 56% off 1.
