1. Yes this is quite a good one, however, this is a 15" and fairly high end. You might consider a 13" Model depending upon your daughters use case.
2. Yes Apple gives educational discounts, however this is *last* year's model so this was $2400 new, at best Apple gives 15% discounts, as well as you pay tax with Apple, so your not likely to get much of a better deal if at all.

Literally every Apple / PC debate is apples to oranges. Apple people talk about experience, and PC people only talk about price and specs. Guess what, Apple's main demographic doesn't care about the latest processor or RAM chips. They want a reliable and beautiful computer with an amazing user experience. Everything from the moment you go into their store, to when you first turn it on has been designed intentionally to have the consumer be happy and seamless. Even for years to come, Apple is always there for amazing support. The whole Apple ecosystem works together as one. Whether you value this or not, doesn't matter, because Apple clearly has a market for their products.

PC zealots seem to be offended by this for whatever reason. Let's talk about cars, and how a Toyota compares to Rolls Royce. Or maybe about how Kobe Beef compares to and Aldi discount Steak. Either case, they will do the same thing to the same degree, but the experience will be vastly different. Different choices for different values.

My daughter is newly graduated and starting her 1st teaching job. I know she is saving for a Mac and want to surprise her with one. I don't know much about Mac books. Is this a good one? I assume it's a good price. Also I heard that teachers can get discounts on computers. Anyone know what stores honor this and would this price be better or at least the same as a teacher discounted price?

This MacBook is plenty for what she needs to do. It will last her for the next 3+ years.
That being said, the other one above which I posted to another discussion increases the size of the drive to 512gb for an additional $200. That one is $700 off the retail price.

One thing to keep in mind is if your daughter prefers a smaller laptop vs this one (15 inch).

I'd think she might prefer a 13" MBP as a teacher. Smaller and easily portable.
