This gimbal is Sub par. I bought and returned it when it was $99. the 2 screws rusted within a week and it never got near water. the gimbal function is also okay... if you put it at certain angles when it goes back to horizontal its off ever so slightly then corrects itself.

I guess you get what you pay for

Just so you know Xiaomi annouced a new sports camera a few days ago for 699 YNB.

http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xi...84752.html

So you should be able to get it for a round 150 on Amazon soon.

The image quality is about on par with the current 4k one but battery last about 10-15% longer.

How good is the video quality on the Yi 4K compared to a GoPro Hero 5?

I don't know how good it is compared to the GoPro but for half the price I am very happy with the quality. I got mine a few weeks ago. Here are a few videos that I took. I only filmed them in 2k not 4k. This way you can get some idea of what it looks like.

This first one the Yi 4k is on a tripod in front of my beehive during the solar eclipse.

This one has the yi 4k in a waterproof enclosure on my head while I was tubing behind a pontoon.

I bought one for $99 a couple of months ago---Yes u get what u pay for--- fact of life, overall I am very pleased with this-- works great with my hero 3+, and can't come anywhere near this at this price point, want better quality spend more than >$500. I'm happy with my purchase, it performs well and I didn't have to skim money from my savings budget to get it.

Do you have any sources comparing image quality with the Yi 4K? At least on paper, the Yi 4K has the superior image sensor.

Edit: Looks like the Yi 4K also has superior image stabilization, going up to 2.7K/60fps compared to the Mijia's 1080p/60fps.

Very interesting. The Mijia seems to perform better in low light and has better stabilization, and I'd say that it's a tossup in normal light. Based on this comparison alone, it looks like if you don't need stabilization beyond 1080p/60 and if you're ok with the narrower FOV (145 vs 170 degrees), then the Mijia is the clear winner.

Edit: I might've passed judgment too quickly. I just watched this [youtube.com]comparison video between the Mijia/Yi 4K/Yi 4K+, and the Mijia performed the worst in low light video, and the stabilization was a tossup. The Mijia also had the worst slow motion video. This comparison should be taken with a grain of salt though because the video's creator works for Yi,
