I signed up with Vudu to take advantage of the T-Mobile Tuesdays promotions there and entered my credit card info because it appeared to be the only way to sign up.
But I don't like leaving that CC there; it's one thing to enter it when making a purchase but it doesn't need to be stored in their database when I'm not using it.
However there doesn't seem to be any way to remove it. I tried adding a Walmart gift card with a $5 balance (purchased just for this purpose) and it took the GC info but wouldn't remove the CC info. Someone suggested using a CC "test" number to trick the site into accepting a non-working card but that didn't work either - "card failed verification".
So is there any way to remove the CC while leaving the account open?
Assuming that the answer to that question is "no", I emailed Vudu to ask that they delete my account, after about a week I got a reply asking why I want to delete it, I explained why, and now about a week later there is still no reply to that second request.
Respond to the question asking why again or email them again with the deletion request.
If their customer service cant get back to you in a timely fashion than I am guessing they don't have a 'solution' for you or are really waiting for a response from a 'higher up'. Both of those does not bode well. You should not have this much of an issue removing your cc the way you want.
If its any consolation I would bet even if it was removed that the info would be retained somewhere and vulnerable to a future hack anyway. Personally I turn on all alerts I can and than if something does happen notify of fraud asap and deal with the few days without a cc and updating my cc on file for all my accounts.
This is why I always use Virtual Account Numbers (I believe all Citibank cards have it, at least I have it for Citi Dividend and Citi DoubleCash) when storing CCs online.
It's ridiculous you can't delete CCs on their website. Their email support is super slow, call them up instead. They helped me instantly when I had a different issue.
