Forza Horizon 3 is part of the horizon series. It's open world and (in my opinion) much more fun than the Motorsports series which is more 'realistic' (not at all) than the Horizon series and is only driving on tracks.

Horizon 3 takes place in Australia and the hot wheels expansion is literally what you'd expect by the name. It's bright orange loop-the-loops and jumps.

The Horizon series is known for very wide selection of music (often times by up and coming bands that become popular after the game) whereas the last couple Motorsport series have had pretty terrible music.

I used to buy every Forza game and played the motorsport series religiously but that stopped with 6. They went to 24 person lobbies and it's just not fun. more than half the people on the track don't want to race or get frustrated so they just dive bomb you in the corners. If you don't want to play online then the motorsport series is okay.

The series alternate years. So two years ago was Forza 6, last year was Horizon 3, this year is Forza Motorsport 7, next year will (likely) be Horizon 4 and so on.

It's Forza Horizon 3 with the Hot Wheels DLC expansion which normally costs $20 on top of the base game price.
