newsflash-
verizon provides coverage for ~ 94% of the geographical US. XM 22.3 million hotspots increase this to about 97%. ATT is at ~91%.
sprint & tmobile and other service cover even less.

comparing the coverage area maps was a big deciding factor. after 5 months i have yet to have ANY issues.
I should say, it sounds like mileage may very.

From Tom's Guide: "your connection will automatically transfer over to a Comcast Wi-Fi hotspot when one is in range. The latter should typically represent a boost in speed, and if you aren't on the unlimited data plan, it will help save you data charges. (Several other low-cost carriers, such as Republic Wireless and TextNow, both use this Wi-Fi/cellular approach)."

The user who told me about his experience figured if he was in an area that didn't have a high density of Comcast hot-spots, that the service would operate more like a typical MVNO, using Verizon's towers and network. But in his case he was getting hooked onto hotspots and going over Comcast's Xfinity's network and servers. This was OK if he was stationery, but if he was moving, he was getting the issues as he was getting passed hotspot, to hotspot and Verizon's network.

I was planning on cancelling Comcast (I have internet only and was planning on switching to Verizon gigabit). If I try to get this deal and sign up for XM mobile services, can I cancel my internet, keep the XM for 90 days, and still be golden?

I guess I was luckier. I just completed this transaction in Knoxville, TN on the first try. I started by calling retentions, but she didn't do anything and forwarded me to what she called mobile sales. The representative confirmed both the $500 and $200 gift cards. Hopefully it all goes through. She said I only needed internet service, as has been discussed in the thread for the retentions offer.

I read the whole thread, and I didnt see anything definitive. After 3 months and the GC comes, can we cancel, unlock the phone, and use it on a different carrier? Specifically a GSM carrirer like Tmobile?

I have triple play, but no mobile service. I live in Miami. Called the xfinity number and told the associate, heard about the promotion and would like to sign up for it. She said, will connect to the mobile department. I dont think it was the retention dept. Then I talked to this mobile associate, and told about the 500$ promotion and I would like to sign up for mobile service. She said the promotion is available only if I keep all the services for 90 days and do the payment without any delay. Upon agreement to that, she signed me up for the moble services and told I will receive the gc after 14 weeks once I activate the mobile line.

Did you order the phone right away on the phone? Or she just put a code on your account and you can order the phone later?

Xfinity internet only customer, called via Retentions, got in on a new line for Galaxy S8 without porting in. For those who qualify, it's basically a risk-free 90-day trial of XM service with a free Galaxy S8 attached.

If coverage/service is crappy, turn off data on phone settings and hold it until you get the Visa cards, then cancel service and unlock and keep or sell the phone.

Can someone who's done this deal comment on the billing and timing of payments? BOA has a $50 cashback offer when you activate XM by 12/4 and pay your first bill by 1/18. We have 4 accounts with this offer so that's $200 cashback if we split payments (it worked last time I activated service with AT&T).
